Wireless Painters Pole "how to"

I know a few in the group posted "how to" for a painters pole here is another way to use off the shelf parts for a professional set up with wireless shutter release.

WIRELESS PAINTERS POLE SET UP

This is my most recent painters pole set up. I wanted wireless fire the shutter on my Canon 5D. To do this you need a few parts, besides the painters pole.

Here is a list of the parts off the shelf items to make a pole photo set up for wireless shooting.

1] Mr. Longarm I got the 15 foot model. Available in the paint department of Home Depot or www.mrlongarm.com $36.97

2] Monfrotto mini ball head Model number 484RC2. This will allow quick release & mount of the camera and more important allow you to point the camera down a little. Adjustable head. Amazon dot com about $60. with free shipping

3] Baby pin adapter from www.filmtools.com 1/4 /20 Male to Baby Pin Aluminum Adapter $15.50

4] Pole Adapter from midwest photo exchange www.mpex.com Kacey Pole Adapter $19.00

You need the pole adapter to screw on to the top of the painters pole.

5] Things I all ready had from Real Estate Photography, were two Pocket Wizards.

Things to remember, one goes on the hot shoe of the camera, needs the selector on “LOCAL” . The cable needs to go into the jack marked “Camera/Flash” .

The second Pocket Wizard you keep in your pocket, when the camera is up in the air, press TEST button to fire the shutter. Now how cool is that !!

Pocket Wizards, cost now around $170. bucks each

Special note: If for some reason you still need to fire a “remote flash” somewhere in your photo, your two Pocket Wizards are set to channel one on the hot shoe of the camera & the Pocket Wizard you have in your hand is on channel one. SET the remote flash Pocket Wizard to channel TWO, then when you press the test button this will fire the shutter in the camera, then send a signal relay to the “remote” Pocket Wizards to fire your flash. Pocket Wizards will alway send a relay one channel UP. Otherwise if you have them all set to channel one, you press the test button, your camera shutter & remote flash go off all at the same time, you will have shutter curtain in your photo, again to avoid this, your remote flash pocket wizards need to be set to channel TWO, this mini delay “sync” everything. Maybe you are taking a night photo of a house with your new toy, the pole camera, your need to sync the remote flash with your camera, this is the method. Have fun !!

6] Last item is a REMOTE CABLE from the Pocket Wizard to the side port of your Canon or Nikon camera. Spendy, at about $70. Here is a link to find the exact cable for your camera.
www.pocketwizard.com/support/cable_finder/

This set-up allows you to use a painters pole, attach your camera in a professional ,non-duck tape methods, and fire the shutter remote wireless using a few items you may all ready have in your bag.

The elevation of about 15 feet for a rear of home or street level elevated is just enough to make a difference.

I also have a roof mounted 55 foot air mast on our SUV for real Aerial Photos & Panoramic neighborhood shots, however find the 15 foot painters pole just great for a quickie in the front or that important “rear” shot to make a difference where an elevated shot will stand out.

The photos below were taken with my pocket camera, I know one is out of focus, that is the camera, but you can see what all this looks like assembled. I will replace the photos here soon. The entire set of photos are in my flickr group photos.

Hope everyone enjoys this post, questions & comments welcome. Add to the list of how you did it, let us see what you did.

Beverly Hills Photo Shoot

Hello to all, started taking photos for Realtors, had a stager let us shoot her "staged" home to get started for photos to use on our web site. Here is one of the homes. NOTE: Take a look at the photo, you can see through the window into the patio, this was taken on manual settings 5D, with three strobes in the room.

Meter for window on manual, then add strobes to balance natural light in room, like magic this photo will appear, first shot.

STUDIO ZZZ BURNS TO GROUND

We are back, at least for a little while. WHY leave? The photo I woke up to on New Years day 2008, YIP, that is Jan 1st 2008 was the Fire Engines & poring water, on what? Our new photo studio, at least where were moving as of mid December, a few weeks earlier to this nice 1930's brick building, now a pile of rubble. We did not loose much equipment, but decided to take the rest of 2008 off.

Touring Europe with wife Milya, took the family car put into container bound for Bremerhaven Germany. Wheels are great, along with a good travel companion, we ended up all over EU and found Bulgaria a wonderland. More later. Anyway, now 2009, no posting for all most a year on this blog, now back in USA for a while, taking up a pro photo business once again. Orange County is our new temp home, till my move back to "Russia".
